On July 13th, a ceremony was held in honor of those who have contributed to the historic preservation of Winter Park. Four awards were given to both residential and commercial properties. The Excellence in Residential Renovation award went to Rick and Wendy Hosto who own the Annie B. Johnston House and the Excellence in Adaptive Reuse award was given to the Kummer-Kibbourne residence, home to the Keewin Real Property Co. offices. The Excellence in Commercial Renovation was given to the owner of The Coop, John Rivers. Lastly, the Lifetime Achievement in Historic Preservation was given to the family of the late John Spang. Spang is known for the East India Clothing Store and the Ice Cream Parlor as well as the landmark Park Plaza Hotel and Park Plaza Garden restaurant.
“This is tremendous,” said Mayor Steve Leary. “It’s the people of the city who make this city work.”
